Using the wrong type of power supply can damage the outdoor pool lights and may also present safety or fire risk.
What Would Happen if Using Unsuitable Power Supply?
1. Wrong Wattage Power Supply
Wattage is just how much power draws, not how much power you put into it.
If the pool led strip lights need 100w, and your supply is only 75w, it will be very dim.
The opposite is not true. A 150w supply will only supply the 100W it needs.
2. Wrong Voltage Power Supply
1-2v more voltage increase will make pool accent lights brighter, but if you put a 36v supply into a 24v strip, it'll burn out in a few seconds.
Even if you have an adjustable supply, and add a few extra volts, you risk burning it up, and having the LEDs fail in a day, or even taking a few years off its life.
How to Pick a Power Supply for My Pool Light?
There are 3 quick steps to pick a suitable power supply for your pool lighting , applicable to both high voltage pool lights and low voltage pool lights.
1. Voltage for Pool Lights
Check the voltage of your pool accent lights:12V, 24V, 120V or 240V. Note, AC high voltage led strips do not require a power supply.

2. Estimated Power Usage
Before calculating the estimated power usage of pool lights, we have to clarify the length of pool lights project and the power consumption of the pool lights:
Length of Pool Lights:
Confirm the length of your led strip pool lighting .
For example, we will use 2pcs 20m/65.6ftstrips for our continued mock pool project.
Power Consumption:
Look for the power consumption on the product page or ask the light supplier.
We use 4.8w/m(1.46w/ft) .

3. Calculate the Estimated Power Usage Now
Our mock pool project light length example setup will use 4.8W/m x 2 x 20m = 192 watts (1.46W/ft x 2 x 65.6ft ≈ 192 watts)
Once you confirm the voltage and minimum wattage needed, you can pick your power supply.
To finalize our example, we need a power unit in 24V that has an output of more than 192W.
