Overview of High Voltage and Low Voltage LED Pool Lights
Low voltage pool lights typically operate at 12v or 24v, while high voltage pool lights operate at 120v and 240v.
You can get more from our previous blog Understanding Pool Lighting Voltage: Is 12V, 24V, 120V, or 240V the Right Choice.
Preparing for Installation
1. Safety Precautions and Regulations
Turning off the power supply before starting any installation work. And wear protective gear and know about local electrical codes and regulations.
In Australia and New Zealand, the luminaires installed in a swimming or spa pool shall be supplied by SELV at an output nominal voltage not exceeding 12 V a.c. or 30 V ripple-free d.c(Clause 6.3.4.5 of AS/NZS 3000:2018).
Thus, pay attention to the local codes and regulations to avoid breaking the law.
2. Tools and Materials Needed for Installation
Tools:
Safety goggles and gloves
Voltage tester
Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
Multimeter
Materials:
High voltage or low voltage pool light strips
Power supply(for low voltage systems)
Controller
Waterproof junction boxes
Extend electrical cable(if you need to extend the cable)
Mounting buckles for light strips
3. Planning the Layout and Design of Swimming Pool Lighting
Design Considerations: Plan the swimming pool lighting layout to ensure even illumination around the pool. Consider the placement of swimming pool led light strips to highlight key features and enhance the pool's aesthetics.
Wiring Path: Determine the wiring path and ensure it's clear of obstacles. Plan the placement of junction boxes and transformers for easy access and maintenance.
Power Source: Identify the location of the power source and ensure it can handle the load of the new lighting system. If necessary, consult a licensed electrician to verify your electrical system's capacity.

Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Low Voltage Pool Lighting(Using PaneraLux Accessories as an Example)
1. Turning off Power and Preparing the Site Firstly
Turn off power and use a voltage tester to confirm no electrical current is present. Clear the installation area of any debris or obstacles. Mark the locations where the pool led strip lights and table will be installed according to the layout.
2. Installing the Power Supply and Controller
PaneraLux power supply includes a waterproof junction box, uses a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the end cover of the junction box and pass and connect the high-voltage power wire (provided by you) into the junction box.
Tighten the end caps at both ends to ensure IP67 waterproofing, and secure the top cover with screws.
And if you ordered a controller from PaneraLux which with a matched waterproof junction box, you shall connect the wires at the output end of the power supply to the controller by a flathead screwdriver, and tighten the end caps of the controllers' waterproof box to ensure IP67 waterproofing, and fix the top cover with screws by a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Installing the Cable and Mount Buckles for Low Voltage Pool Lights
Run the electrical cable through conduit you prepared to the installation site. Secure the mounting buckles(top mount buckles or side mount buckles) along the planned path. Ensure they are evenly spaced and firmly attached.
4. Mounting the Low Voltage Pool Light
Attach the led strip lights for pool coping to the mounting clips following the instructions on our pool light page.

5. Connecting the Light to the Controller
Connect the light strip wiring to the low voltage wiring running from the controller, and tighten the caps.
6. Testing the Installation and Ensuring Safety
Restore power and test the low voltage pool light strips to ensure they are functioning correctly. Use a multimeter to verify proper voltage levels.
Inspect all connections and fixtures for any signs of damage or improper installation. Ensure the light strips are securely mounted and properly sealed.
Step-by-Step Guide to Installing High Voltage Pool Lights(Similar to Low Voltage Pool Lights)
1. Turning off Power and Preparing the Site
Turn off power and use a voltage tester to confirm no electrical current is present. Clear the installation area of any debris or obstacles. Mark the locations where the light strips and table will be installed according to the layout.
2. Installing the Cable and Buckles
Run the electrical cable through conduit you prepared to the installation site. Secure the mounting buckles(top mount buckles or side mount buckles) along the planned path. Ensure they are evenly spaced and firmly attached.
3. Mounting the High Voltage Pool Light Strip
Attach the led light strips for pool to the mounting clips following the instructions by suppliers.
4. Connecting the Light to the Power Supply
The only difference is connecting the light strip wiring to the electrical wiring running from the power supply. Use waterproof wire connectors to ensure a secure and safe connection.
Apply waterproof sealant around the connections to prevent water intrusion.
5. Testing the Installation and Ensuring Safety
Restore power and test the low voltage pool light strips to ensure they are functioning correctly. Use a multimeter to verify proper voltage levels.
Inspect all connections and fixtures for any signs of damage or improper installation. Ensure the pool strip lights are securely mounted and properly sealed.
