2. Reasons Lights for Pool Get Wet

Using Non-Waterproof LED Strip Lights Around Pools

Installing non-waterproof LED strip lights around the pool is a common mistake.

These non-waterproof lights lack the necessary protection and can't prevent water ingress, and would be electrical shorts and damage sooner or later.

Scammed by Product Claims

Sometimes, suppliers may provide lower-rated lights (such as IP65 or IP67) as IP68.

Similar with non-waterproof pool lights, lower-rated lights are not fully protected against continuous submersion.

Poor Quality

The led light pool which have low quality may degrade with short lifespan, so pool water would seep in and these lights would malfunction.

Corrosion from Pool Chemicals

Even high quality waterproof LED strip lights can be susceptible to corrosion from harsh pool chemicals like chlorine.

If the led swimming pool lights are not designed with materials resistant to these chemicals, their protective seal would be compromised, leading to water ingress.

3. What Happens if Pool Lights Get Wet

Electrical Short Circuit

Water can cause the electrical components within the LED strip lights to short circuit, leading to immediate failure of the lights and potentially dangerous situations.

And that's why we recommend low voltage pool lighting for you, it can minimize the danger from these pool lights.

More info on high voltage and low voltage pool lights please check: Understanding Pool Lighting Voltage: Is 12V, 24V, 120V, or 240V the Right Choice.

Reduced Light Output

If water seeps into the underwater pool led lights, it can cloud the light output, resulting in dim or uneven lighting.

It not only affects the appearance of the pool light but also their ability to function properly.

Corrosion and Rust

Same as the results of reduced light output, corrosion and rust of lights would affects the aesthetic appeal and the functionality of the waterproof lights for pools.

Over time, exposure to water, especially if it contains chemicals like chlorine, can cause corrosion and rusting of the metal components within the lights.

Permanent Damage and Failure

In many cases, once water enters the LED strip light, it can cause irreversible damage. The internal circuitry of the lights may be compromised, leading to flickering lights or complete failure.
